Gloves, face masks and eye wash

Just before Highwood ceased work on its developments due to the coronavirus crisis, its Health and Safety Manage, Terry Oliver, put out the call to his on-site teams to gather all spare PPE.

He collected a range of gloves, face masks and eye wash products from Highwood’s sites and took it to Rowans Hospice, a specialist end-of-life charity based in Portsmouth that offers free care and support to adults who live with life-limiting illnesses.

It was the least we could do

‘Rowans was very appreciative and grateful for our efforts,’ revealed Terry. ‘The hospice is struggling with contributions at the moment and, since they’re wholly reliant on public donations, giving the unit our surplus PPE was the least we could do. 87% of income comes from fundraising events, which have either been postponed or cancelled this year.

‘We would like to urge others in our industry to take a look at their on-site equipment to see if they can spare any excess for Rowans or other care facilities that really need it at the moment.’
